On 14th July 2013, the first ever synchronizedactivity to ever take place between Kenyan kids and Japanese kids (Daizukids)kicks off. The occasion will see kids plant soya beans in Malava, Kakamega County of Kenya and the same will take place in Nagoya Japan. These are the“DaizuKids”. Sponsored by Japan Africa Trust(JAT) and United Mission for The Needy(UMN), theproject aims to educate kids on how to grow soya beans, harvest and processinto food.
Soya is a rich crop in provision of plant proteins. It is hopedthatthe children in Kakamega county will develop interest in the crop and hencespur farming of the crop within the county therefore enhance protein andalleviate protein deficiency within the county. It’s worth noting thatproteindeficiency remains a major problem in the county and JAT and UMN focus oneliminating this so as kids can grow healthy and strong and fullyparticipatein development of the county.
Other activities that will take place same dayinclude, showcase of JAT/UMN activities, show for greenhouse and children Drawing and story writing competition.

A MAJOR RATIONALE FOR SEEKING THE SUPPORT —NAY, THE PARTICIPATION OF KIDS — IS FOUR-FOLD:
1. KIDS NEED GOOD NUTRITION AT THEIR STAGE OF GROWTH…MORE THAN ADULTS
2. CURRENT ADULTS WILL BEQUETH SMALLER AND LESS FERTILE ARABLE LAND DUE TO THE SPIRALLING POPULATION, ESPECIALLY IN LIGHT OF BAD LAND USE IN DEVELOPING WORLD
3. THE WORLD’S FUTURE BELONGS TO THE KIDS OF TODAY
4. SOYA FOOD COMBINES ESSENTIAL NUTRITIONAL NEEDS AS A MONOCROP AND IS THEREFORE APPROPRIATE FOR THE DEPRESSED CROP DIVERSITY IN KENYA AND MANT DEVELOPING COUNTRIES.
